Katrina Vidaurri Hassan is a Mexican-American visual artist who trained as a graphic designer. Her work is a wide mix of painting, illustration, customised screen-printed t-shirts, recycled object jewellery and mexican-folk-kitsch-home decor. She loves using recycled materials whenever possible, incorporating items such as bottle caps and train tickets in her bespoke jewellery and mirrors.
Katrina’s background and travels play a huge influence in her art. Recently she has been making a lot of piñatas (paper-mache sculptures decorated with colourful tissue paper traditionally used for kids birthdays in Mexico). Some of her previous designs include Spiderman, The Incredible Hulk, Sugar Skulls for the ‘Dia de los Muertos’ (Day of the Dead) traditional Mexican holiday and other characters and themes aimed at children.
She also hosts piñata workshops and has made a few bespoke piñatas for the Mexican restaurant chain Wahaca.
